Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 11,000 successful arthroscopic joint procedures, 3,400 reconstructive fracture procedures, and over 4,100 hip, knee, and shoulder replacements—an extraordinary accomplishment that reflects both his experience and trusted expertise.
Specializing in minimally invasive hip and knee replacement surgery, orthopedics, arthroscopy of the shoulder, knee, ankle, and elbow, as well as adolescent sports medicine, Dr. McGlowan remains at the forefront of cutting-edge orthopedic care. His expertise includes MAKOplasty®, an advanced robotic-assisted surgical procedure utilizing the “RIO Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System” for minimally invasive joint replacement surgery. Throughout his career, Dr. McGlowan has treated elite athletes from around the world, including Olympic-trial competitors, NFL, NBA, and WNBA hopefuls, bodybuilders, fitness and bikini models, minor league athletes, and more than 100 Division I scholarship athletes recovering from reconstructive surgeries. His extensive experience working with high-performance athletes has made him a trusted name in sports medicine and rehabilitation.
Recognized consistently for his expertise and leadership in orthopedic surgery, Dr. McGlowan has earned numerous prestigious honors throughout the years. Among his many distinctions are Top Orthopedic Surgeon 2024, Orthopedic Surgeon of the Year 2024, Top 100 Registry 2024, and recognition by the U.S. Elite International for his participation in the USA/Bahamas Scholarship and Athletic Convention, where he served as a sports doctor consultant for the international nonprofit organization.
His accomplishments have also been featured nationally in numerous medical and professional publications. Dr. McGlowan appeared on the cover of Top Industry Experts Magazine and was published among the Top 50 Most Distinguished Professionals in Medicine in 2022. Additional recognitions include Patient Preferred Orthopedic Surgeon 2019, Patient Preferred Orthopedic Surgeon of the Year 2020, Orthopedic Surgeon of the Year 2019 by Top Doctor’s Magazine, and a feature in the Best in Medicine edition of Preferred Health Magazine in 2020.

Dr. McGlowan’s journey into medicine began with earning his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1992. He completed his general surgery residency at NYU Langone Health in New York before advancing into orthopedic surgery and sports medicine training. From 1994–1996, he served as an Orthopaedic Surgery House Officer and Research Fellow at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. He later completed his Orthopaedic Residency and Research Fellowship at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and went on to complete an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship in arthroscopy and sports medicine affiliated with the Boston Red Sox at the University of Massachusetts from 2001–2002.
In addition, Dr. McGlowan received specialized training alongside the physicians for the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres between 1997 and 2001, further strengthening his expertise in sports-related injuries and athlete rehabilitation.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. McGlowan remains deeply involved in professional orthopedic organizations. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Fellow of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is also an active member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the International Society of Arthroscopy Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
