In the serene community of Lake Mary, Florida, Dr. Whitney Thorne has built a reputation not only for her technical expertise but also for her extraordinary empathy as a vascular surgeon with the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute. Honoring her achievements, Dr. Thorne has been named a Patient Preferred Vascular Surgeon representing the state of Florida for 2025. A board-certified specialist, Dr. Thorne treats an extensive range of conditions including abdominal aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease, venous insufficiency, blood clots, renal artery stenosis, and varicose veins, providing both minimally invasive endovascular procedures and open surgical care based on each patient’s needs.


Her path to medicine reflects a lifelong dedication to learning and patient care. After earning her bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, she pursued a master’s in biology at Purdue University before completing her medical degree at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. She went on to complete an integrated vascular surgery residency at TriHealth/Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. Today, she holds board certification from the American Board of Surgery and is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI). She is also an active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the American Osteopathic Association, Florida Medical Association, Florida Osteopathic Medical Association a reflection of her strong ties to professional communities committed to advancing surgical standards.


What makes Dr. Thorne truly stand out in her field is her patient-first philosophy. She believes that healing requires more than just technical skill—it calls for listening, compassion, and understanding the social, mental, and physical well-being of every individual who walks into her office. Patients frequently describe her as attentive, thorough, and approachable, someone who takes the time to explain conditions clearly and ensures that no question goes unanswered. One patient recently wrote, “Dr. Thorne is a fierce advocate for her patients. She listened carefully to my concerns, explained every step of the process, and made me feel confident and comfortable. Her practice at the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute’s Lake Mary office has become a hub of trust for the community. In addition, she sees patients in Oviedo and Orange City. She also has privileges at Orlando Health Regional Medical Center, where she collaborates with colleagues across specialties to provide advanced cardiovascular and vascular care. Beyond the clinic and operating room, Dr. Thorne finds joy in reading, running, swimming, traveling, and spending time with her family and her 2 Great Danes and her Great DaNoodle—a balance of professional dedication and personal grounding that mirrors the vitality she brings to her patients.
